El Escocés Volante (The Flying Scotsman) is the project of Scottish winemaker (but already ‘adopted’ in Spain) and Master of Wine, Norrel Robertson. He is one of the most admired winemakers in Spain and consults for a number of other producers at home and around the World.
Dos Dedos de Frents is a blend of 95% Syrah with 5% Viognier from a 2ha estate lying at an altitude of 950m, where the stony soils produce the most extraordinary wines. The grapes ripened at the same time and as such were fermented together, before ageing in large pre-used French oak barrels for 12 months prior to bottling. The 2018 represents the 10th vintage from this plot and it’s widely agreed as the finest yet.
“Spectacular and intense dark fruit on the nose! Blackcurrant, blackberries, cassis, violets, smoke and minerality. On the palate, it is rich and deep but not massive. It has mouth-watering acidity, ripe tannins, and elegant oak integration. I find this vintage more balanced than previous ones. The wine has precise fruit expression. 2018 has been the greatest year for this wine.” Jancisrobinson.com (Ferran Centelles) 18/20
