Description

If you’re not going out out this NYE, then here is a selection of four stunning wines to compliment any feast you may be planning instead.

Kick off your evening or celebrate the arrival of 2022 with a glass of one of England’s finest sparkling wines.  This is great as an aperitif, but is such a great food wine – delicious with a  smoked salmon and prawn mousse.

The creamy, buttery style of the St Aubin is lovely with langoustines, poached salmon in a hollandaise sauce or seared tuna.  It is great with cheeses too and makes a fine way to end a meal.

For a classic red Bordeaux, this St Emilion Grand Cru is simply perfect with a rack of lamb or a celeriac, mushroom and walnut gratin.

Whether you have a sweet tooth or not, the half bottle of Tokaji is a treat.  Whether you want to  serve it with a classic Tarte Tatin or crème brûlée, it is an ideal pairing.  But it is equally amazing with a creamy blue cheese, such as a Barkham Blue.

Enjoy!

All 75cl bottles apart from the 37.5cl half bottle of Tokaji.

Breaky Bottom Cuvée Jack Pike 2015, Sussex
Pale lemon colour with a lovely mousse of fine bubbles. Biscuity on the nose with a hint of lemongrass. On the palate it opens with a ripe, creamy start and evolves into a tantalising, lemon sherbet and mouthwatering, long finish.

Saint Aubin Les Champs Tirant 2017, Domaine Gerard Thomas et Filles
This beautifully mature white burgundy subtly merges the rich, creamy and nutty flavours with  refreshing acidity, leading on to a long and fine finish.

Chȃteau Fombrauge 2005, St Emilion Grand Cru
77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is now it’s prime, although will continue to mature for another 10-15 years.  “This chewy, powerful, decadent St.-Emilion is a modern-styled, impressively endowed, pure, intense wine. It is another brilliant example of winemaking from proprietor Bernard Magrez”, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate 92 points.

Mád Tokaji 2017 (37.5cl.), Tokaji, Hungary
Scooping a trophy at last years IWSC, this late harvest blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály might not exactly roll off the tongue, however the name Tokaji is synonymous with exceptional quality sweet wine, and this is one of the best. Complex, luscious honeyed botrytis characters are balanced with a strong mineral backbone and bright acidity.
