Description

If you are looking ahead to the end of dry-January or are simply looking for some special bottles to celebrate the end of January, then here are four sensational wines from two classic regions of France – Burgundy and Bordeaux.

Here are the details of the six wines in this box:

Chȃteau Fourcas Dupré 2015 Cru Bourgeois Médoc
Much of this estate had extensive re-plantings and as such these are all now 40+ year old vines in their prime and giving glorious wines.  The estate covers 47 hectares of prime, free-draining, gravel soils together with plots of clay and limestone, culminating at the highest point of the Médoc (43.5m). This classic and structured Claret from the fine 2015 vintage has evolved well and is drinking beautifully now.

Chȃteau Fombrauge 2005 St Emilion Grand Cru
“This chewy, powerful, decadent St. Emilion is a modern-styled, impressively endowed, pure, intense wine. It is another brilliant example of winemaking from proprietor Bernard Magrez. Drink 2019-2039. 92+ points, Robert Parker. April 2008.”

Bourgogne Chardonnay La Jumalie 2017, Henri Darnat
A blend of de-classified Meursault with the juice from vines just outside the appellation.  Expect a rich and complex white burgundy that is very Meursault-like, but without the price tag.

Saint Aubin Champ Tirant 2017, Domaine Gerard Thomas et Filles
This is close to premier cru in quality and has all the hallmarks of a mature fine white burgundy.  Lovely honeyed fruit, a creamy texture and the zesty character of limes in the background balances this wine beautifully.
